But the New York mayoral candidate said: “That’s not the language that I use.”

06/29/2025 02:24 PM EDT“New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani on Sunday again declined to condemn the phrase “globalize the intifada” but emphasized he would be a mayor “that protects Jewish New Yorkers” if elected in November.”
““I’ve heard from many Jewish New Yorkers who have shared their concerns with me, especially in light of the horrific attacks that we saw in Washington, D.C. and in Boulder, Colorado, about this moment of antisemitism in our country and in our city,” Mamdani told Welker. “And I’ve heard those fears, and I’ve had those conversations.””
Just watch the segment. He’s asked 3 times if he condemns the phrase which many consider to be a call to violence and 3 times he levies condemnation toward the sentiment. While he doesn’t say “yes, I condemn ‘globalize the intifada,’” he said it’s not appropriate to police speech, he’ll lead by example, he’s listening to the people of NY when drafting policies such as his significant increase in funding for anti-hate crime funding, and that his policies and the language he uses need to reflect respect for all people.
I’d argue his actual response is a much more appropriate condemnation than just saying “yes” and moving on.
Remember that politico is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. They’re very subtle with it but they weave in questionable headlines all the time.
They don’t want his actual response, opinion, or policy. The desired outcome is obedience, and obedience alone.
Yes, exactly. People seem to be purposefully ignoring his answers. He has amazing message discipline and always gives, imo, the perfect response which balances empathy, morality, and political expediency. He’s an incredibly talented politician who has weathered the manufactured pushback, overt racism (fuck you Gillibrand), and criticisms better than anyone I can think of.
Also, I’m a Jew (not that it matters), but I think when all the ranked choice numbers are finally tallied he will have won the majority of NY Jews in the primary.
He has said so many fucking times he’s AGAINST VIOLENCE. I think he’s just sick of the damn question, and wanted more thought out wording to hit the point home. Some people will never stop asking though.
