I get why people would want to keep honeybees, I just wish they could understand why some of us with land/small farms/homesteads would rather support local pollinator species instead…
Like sure honey would be nice, but the only way I’d be willing to keep them is if they only have access to enclosed greenhouses, to protect local species, and frankly that’s probably too much work for me. I want the local pollinators to thrive because that’s zero work for me. Plus they actually have a place in the ecosystem.
When honeybees occur in high numbers, they can push wild bees out of an area, making it harder for wild plants to reproduce. Honeybees are not a substitute for wild pollinators, so we must protect the entire bee community to achieve good quality pollination.
