Good thing I don’t use android auto either then I guess.
please no
I do not normally say this, but please, for the love of fuck, make Gemini a premium feature

There will now be constant popups for you to upgrade and regular “free trials” that shift around the ui so you use it accidentally, and then go back to normal a week later.
It’s insane to me that there are basically no good options for a secure and private phone from a major manufacturer. All commercial options have some caveats, even Apple. It seems like Google Pixel + Graphene is the only option but you have to do that yourself and it still ONLY supports Google Pixel (for technical reasons, I understand). Literally any laptop can be made secure and private by installing Linux, but with phones your options are severely limited by hardware
We do have this. Not perfect but a good effort by them. https://www.braxtech.net/
What OS?
It runs iode OS. A forked project of lineage. It’s also capable of running Ubuntu touch. It’s a great project, just has some deal breakers for me. If I ever de-google I’d rather use an existing device.
They couldn’t possibly make it any more garbage than it actually is.
In the middle of an audio book in any media player but you connect to your car? Too bad! Android Auto is its own separate little world and your playlist position is different in the car vs. out of it.
Someone sent you a text but ye gods forbid, they sent it before you started driving your car? Too bad! You can’t see past text messages, just the ones that were sent while you were driving. I guess if somebody texted you an address in advance you’ll have to fish your phone out of your pocket.
Somebody’s calling you who is already in your address book. Too bad! We’ll only show the phone number on the screen and not their contact name.
Etc., etc.
Android Auto is basically useless. My car stereo supports both, so I just screen mirror if I actually care about functionality. I only use Android Auto itself when all I want is a map.
My favorite thing to hate on Android auto is: if you get a call or text while using google maps for directions, the notification blocks your view of your directions. I drive with the voice dictation off, i hate driving with ‘turn left, turn right, turn left…’ Announcing every 2 minutes while I’m in the car so I glance at the screen before I need to make turns. In this case, if someone messages or calls you before an exit number or turn on google maps, you will miss it, I’ve passed many highway exits because of this.
All 3 of these things are Google’s own products, how the fuck couldn’t they have thought this through? It also gives the impression, they do literally no real world testing.
Smarter eh? My BP already usually up when driving in traffic. You sure this isn’t just going to piss me off more because I feel like this is just going to piss me off more?
I know people depend on auto implementation a lot and even I have hard time breaking away from Maps. But we are frogs and this water is getting hot.
Only proper solution is to deny the parasite engagement. We do it now or later. The more we wait, the harder it will be.
This is why I didn’t buy a wireless android auto adapter when I bought a different car. I figured Gemini was going to get stuffed down our throats there.
You are gonna use this AI, boy
I am doing what’s best for you, trust me
