    headline is garbage and sensationalist

Queensland will become the first state to expressly ban the use of the phrase “from the river to the sea”, which has been widely adopted by pro-Palestinian supporters.

It and the slogan “globalise the intifada” will become prescribed phrases under the proposed laws, leaving anyone displaying or uttering the words liable for a maximum two-year prison sentence.

I don’t get it, headline seems reasonable.

“From the river to the sea” is a Pro-Palestinian slogan. I don’t think it’s anti-semetic. Anti-Israel sure, but that’s not an inherently bad or negative thing depending on your frame of reference. If you come from a country that has been suffering from colonization historically or even significant occupation for a long period, there is nothing wrong with calling for the destruction of the occupation regime.

Thing is, Israel is leading a global campaign to weaponize western democracies’ protection of minorities, in order to quell any criticism of its apartheid policies. Hence the push too label as antisemitism calls for a free Palestine, calls for a boycott of Israel, calls for the end of the genocide in Gaza. You see that in the UK, in US universities, in France.

“From the river to the sea” apparently comes from the original slogan من المية للمية فلسطين عربية, which literally means “from the water [of the river] to the water [of the sea), Palestine will be Arab.” It’s been used in a number of different contexts, from Western groups that advocate for a single secular democratic state for Jews and Arabs, to groups advocating for Jewish elimination from the region.

I’m confused. If you don’t like the headline, why did you post this?

The headline sounds like a reasonable summary of the situation described.

Hi, mod here. In the future, please avoid posting from news aggregators like Yahoo, etc. Rather, post from the original article source (AAP in this case). This helps keep the community safe, transparent, and helps with moderation as well.
