A post-doctoral researcher from China -- who was in the U.S. on a visa -- was charged with smuggling E. coli into America and making false statements about it.
I mean, I guess I shouldn’t jump to conclusions, but given it’s 2025 (at least for a few more days) and we all remember the frog sperm scientist detained by ICE, I feel like we can all take a wild guess about what probably happened here right?
Well, I mean yeah, but that’s a given. It’s the 20s (again).
But I did make a very deliberate choice to post this in this community before not the onion, because I knew most people would read that headline, let out a hopeless sigh of annoyance/frustration for America, and come to the same conclusion why any researcher might be busted by the FBI for “smuggling E. coli.”
