This is the inevitable consequence of capitalism. It could not possibly end any other way. Capitalism will always lead to the dismantling of democracy on a long enough timescale, it is its logical and causal conclusion.

Society needs some sort of chemo to survive, and the chemo is equally likely to kill it.

It’s bleak but I see no way out of this, it will crash and burn in either case, I am amazed it hasn’t happened here yet.
