“We sent Lexington Police Department out to speak to him, and he refused to do that,” [Sheriff] Weems told NewsChannel 5. “I mean, what kind of person does that? What kind of person just says he don’t care, I’m not taking it down?”

One exercising his right to free speech guaranteed to him by the Constitution, you power tripping whiny fuck.

It was not a Charlie Kirk meme?

It was an image macro of a Trump quote dismissing a school shooting. Not to be overly pedantic, but this is an easily verifiable “fact of the matter”.

    This is the post:

But even snopes seems to get it wrong. And I guess in context with the text posted as part of the image post I suppose you could read into it as being Charlie Kirk related, but its… just posting it at the time of the shooting to highlight the callous nature of Trump doesn’t make it a Charlie Kirk meme?

No there doesn’t, and this guy’s got a slam dunk lawsuit that will likely prove that in a year or two.

There don’t have to be laws for terrorism, it’s a free hall pass for the powers that be. And they get to determine who the terrorists are, which is basically anybody they don’t like or disagree with them.

From the reporting I’ve seen on it so far, its not at all clear to me that any one even reported this/ brought this to police attention in the role of ‘citizen’. From what I can tell in the interview, the sherrif(s?) either were actively monitoring the thread, and/ or were aware of the thread from personal interaction and then chose to intervene?

The whole thing should be getting FAR more press than it actually is. Its utterly baffling to try and figure out what these Sherrifs think the basis of arrest actually was.

That all being said, civil liberties are an afterthought in the face of state violence. There should be riots over this.

The other day I saw one of those “to know who rules you, just look at who you can’t criticize” quotes, so I reached the conclusion that the person running the shadow government is Charlie Kirk.

UK style thought police now coming to a US State near you. The silver lining is that we can now hook up a battery to Orwell’s spinning corpse for unlimited free energy.

We no longer live in a country where we can justify staying in a location because we don’t have money to move or we have family and friends we don’t want to lose.

My suggestion is, don’t post on social media anything that would offend the right wing.

Or rights like free speech for that matter. If we just move along to the next place everytime this shit happens, eventually there will be nowhere left to run to.

Read: We no longer live in a country where we can appeal to material reality to determine whether or not it makes sense to stay here.

I’d be on a flight out this shithole right fucking now if I thought I had a serious chance of surviving in literally any other country, but I simply don’t have the money, connections, social skills, or practical skills to do it. I barely even have them here!

I think you would have a better chance getting on a plane, or swimming across the ocean, in order to establish a life as an illegal alien in another country… than you would have surviving the next ~5 years here…

What it really breaks down to is that people who live in Tennessee do not feel the risk of spending 30 days in jail for posting something disagreeable on the Internet is enough reason to leave Tennessee.

I think you would have a better chance getting on a plane

Stowaways using die after takeoff. Only since literally yesterday have I ever had enough spare money to buy a plane ticket. At this point, I’m probably gonna try and do a semester abroad (or ideally forever), but no guarantees 🤞.

              or swimming across the ocean

Absolutely zero chance I would make it to the other side of the Atlantic. A more realistic option is swimming across one of the rivers or sneaking through the Canadian border. Which…

in order to establish a life as an illegal alien in another country…

Yeah almost every other country treats undocumented migrants like shit because every country has xenophobic bigots and every government serves its local capitalists, so not much of an improvement.

What it really breaks down to is that people who live in Tennessee do not feel the risk of spending 30 days in jail for posting something disagreeable on the Internet is enough reason to leave Tennessee.

Yes exactly! Emphasis on risk, i.e. we assume a probability distribution and roll the dice. IMO the alternatives you proposed have less favorable distributions for me than remaining here, but I recognize that (1) everyone has their own situation and (2) humans are trash at assigning probabilities so I could be wrong. But you’re not morally superior (or inferior) for choosing not to roll that specific dice.

Like I’ve been looking to leave this country for over 15 years. I absolutely HATE Amerikkka and everything it stands for, and I have hated Amerikkka since long before Trump. If I could have left, I would have left. So I beg you to understand that just because I remain here doesn’t mean I approve of even the tiniest sliver of what this country does to us and the rest of the world.

Depends on what’s outside. Is it a five-hundred foot drop? Would I rather burn to death or die on the pavement?

I’m saying it’s just not bad enough yet.

Yeah it’s not bad enough yet for me. I’m openly saying it. And that doesn’t make me morally inferior or worthy of your scorn.
