That headline is the most milquetoast way to say:
The Education Department said Monday it will reroute grant funding to charter schools, civics programs, tribal colleges, and historically Black colleges and universities after withholding federal dollars earmarked for a host of other grant programs that run counter to President Donald Trump’s agenda.
“The Department has carefully scrutinized our federal grants, ensuring that taxpayers are not funding racially discriminatory programs but those programs which promote merit and excellence in education,” Education Secretary Linda McMahon said in a statement Monday.
The department would not disclose which programs will lose funding. But a source familiar with the plans, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly, said the money will come from a mix of grants that support teachers, early-childhood education and colleges that educate large numbers of minority students.
