It’s odd the author doesn’t even bring up the legal aspect of US providers having their own ideas of what acceptable businesses are, linking the payment system to US national law and moral expectations. Visa and MasterCard have time and again crippled businesses by simply refusing transactions from them on moral grounds - catering to the sensibilities of a different culture and society.
I am surprised that EU have not made a Visa/mastercard alternative when there are som many domestic versions like Bancontact (Belgium); Cartes Bancaires (France); Girocard (Germany); Bancomat and Poste Italiane SpA (Italy); BankAxept (Norway)
this channel is also on Nebula!
we can’t get rid of Visa/MC fast enough. contact your banks!
In general I’m all for the digital euro and have been waiting for it for years. One complained i have about the proposed implementation as explained in the video is the limitation of funds and almost coerced linking to a bank account. That feels like heavy lobbying from banks not too loose their business
This and one of the stated intentions is increased control over how people use their funds. For example, digitally blocking transactions for products and services the government deems immoral or illegal. Or preventing any transactions without both parties being formally identified and all of their transactions recorded.
The only good outcome of this is potentially slightly lower fees for merchants.
