Summary
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney declared an end to Canada-U.S. relations centered on economic integration and security cooperation after Trump imposed permanent 25% tariffs on imported vehicles and auto parts.
Carney vowed to reduce Canada’s reliance on the U.S. and develop alternative trade partnerships.
He condemned the tariffs as a “very direct attack” and pledged to defend Canadian workers and industries.
Trump admitted to using tariffs to pressure Canada, leading to fears of economic fallout for northern U.S. states and immediate stock market impacts on automakers.
as putin wished, trump must trip all the breakers within the us and the west, we are islanding, thus weakening
When USA isn’t a superpower any more, they can’t project their power on the other side of the world either. In recent decades, they got involved with a bunch of different conflicts around the world, and influenced global geopolitics. I guess those days are permanently behind us now.
Now, it’s up to Russia, China and India to figure out what they want to do with that power vacuum.
The US will likely remain a global power even after fascists completely take over. It’ll be less effective, but the US military isn’t going anywhere, for one. It will inevitably collapse, though, because fascism isn’t exactly sustainable, and what happens after that is anybody’s guess.
Which makes me worried. A country with a declining economy but the largest military in the world is almost certain to project its inner problems outwards in form of war. The best the world can hope for is another civil war inside the US.
Oh yeah absolutely. Like any newly minted fascist state America will need its own Generalplan Ost sooner or later. That’s shaping up to be Canada, but it could also be Iran. Feels weird to say that, but yeah let’s hope for a civil war.
The best the world can hope for is another civil war inside the US.
Frankly this is less likely than a midterm sweep and an impeached and removed Trump.
Both are fantasy I think.
My guess: First corporate war and the formation of NUSA that maintains a little bit of control over some parts of the country. The rest will be effectively owned and controlled by various corporations that act more like kingdoms.
The US balkanization is long overdue
Maybe one day it will be a Russian President telling the American President to tear down that (Mexican) wall.
Consequences, and the end of and era. I reckon, the world will be a very chaotic place for a while, as a new world order must find it’s balance.
I guess sometimes you do have to state the obvious.
I’m just glad a world leader is finally coming right out and saying it.
We will need to dramatically reduce our reliance on the United States. We will need to pivot our trade relationships elsewhere. And we will need to do things previously thought impossible at speeds we haven’t seen in generations.
This is some concrete and serious talk.
Okay my knowledge of Canadian politics can be summarized in like three sentences, but I have to say this guy is good. Let’s just hope he doesn’t blow it as liberals tend to do.
