Decriminalisation helps users and lowers abuse, but it doesn’t take drug crime away from drug cartels. Which we definitely should do, and which would further help users and lower abuse.

That’s why it’s better to legalise everything and set up a regulated system. We can accept the fact that adult people can responsibly use even things such as cocaine, methamphetamines, opiates even. If there’s an actually regulated system that takes in account the user and suspected abuses, then it’s obviously vastly superior to any criminal run enterprise. It’s also healthier and funds the government through taxes from the funds which are now channelled directly into large international criminal enterprises.

Idk man is this something that really needs to be available but regulated as opposed to just being banned. I don’t think it should be a crime to use or be in possession of but selling products that exist solely to give people an addiction is something I’m broadly in favour of. Fyi there is no healthy amount of nicotine or smoke inhalation. Also we’re talking about kids here. Letting adults fuck up their health for vanity is one thing but allowing people to sell an addiction to kids so that we can ensure they’re getting the healthy alternative is fucked up. For comparison there is no logical argument for letting kids buy alcohol so that they aren’t buying unsafe black market alternatives.

Yeah and in this case harm reduction is telling kids not to take nicotine, teaching them why and increasing the difficulty in acquiring nicotine products. Just because it’s futile to stop all nicotine abuse doesn’t make efforts to reduce it not worthwhile. Far more kids drink and smoke underage than do illicit drugs precisely because drugs are harder to get a hold of. The overall impact of reducing everyone’s risk by a moderate amount as opposed to a small group of people’s risk by a large amount is a worthwhile trade off. Yes there is an argument that kids who are doing illicit drugs are endangering themselves so we should legalise and regulate them instead so we know they are doing it “safely.” But, far more people would be doing drugs and causing far more damage if they were legal.
Not to bring up the moral argument of letting products that serve no purpose but to get people to be addicted to them in the first place be sold at all.
Because literally anything can become addictive for the right person. So no one is allowed to sell anything.
