The fellow proudly tweeting about Tesla’s shiny new Experience Center in Mumbai is the Chief Minister of the state, btw.

The tweet on the right goes on to state that the Minister took action…against the NGO that put out the report.

It was so kind of Elon to open up a new public bathroom, since there’s such a shortage. Everyone in Mumbai should use the new Tesla Experience Center to really show their appreciation of him.

India is a huge country with lots of wealth inequality.

While there have been gains in the last decade, in some areas it’s still common to not have indoor toilets in every residence, that’s people dealing with poverty.

It’s not like they just don’t want bathrooms, they can’t afford them.

Cracking jokes at their expense is very bad form, but there’s an equal chance you were just ignorant and legitimately asking, so I’m leaving the comment up.

But in any area where “open defecation” is widespread in a community, it’s almost never because everyone prefers it. It’s what happens when the infrastructure for a biological need doesn’t exist. There’s literally no other option.

It wasn’t a joke. I have a friend in india who says that people are stubborn and just use the street as it’s what they’re used to.

I remember there was a white dude who saw kids in Africa weren’t wearing shoes, so then ended up just sending loads of shoes there, creating waste and putting shoemakers out of business. Their roads and paths were made of mud, so having shoes wasn’t really a priority for them, they were more concerned about drinking water, etc

Your “friend”, if they exist, is either a fucking moron and or they’re fucking with you. People everywhere in the country like having toilets and indoor plumbing, sometimes they just can’t afford them because the government has their heads up their own asses

It is a genuine question - if that’s their cultural habit, do they even need a toilet. Kind of like how the Chinese don’t really desire better sewage infrastructure because they’re used to binning toilet paper as opposed to flushing it.
