He doesn’t want a huge war that the US might get dragged into. He’s been somewhat consistent about disliking drawn out conflicts out of pure self interest. They are usually a bad idea for presidential administrations, driven by the larger ambitions of the liberal empire. Trump cares not for the empire, only for himself.
