They don’t use mph in China, it would be 350 km/h or roughly 220 mph. It would in fact take you about 4 seconds for a quarter mile, but only with a rolling start which is not a standard way to do the quarter mile drag race and thus not valid for comparison to any existing quarter mile times. Otherwise we can take a hypercar to the Autobahn to beat it easily.

None of which is to be say that trains aren’t great. They’re just not exciting in terms of having fast-paced competitions.

Considering I’m not even among the 4 people who downvoted you, I don’t think it’s a me problem. If you were trying to play a character there - it wasn’t over the top enough, it seemed like the average “trains solve everything and there’s no use case for cars, ever” person.

Oh, I wasn’t blaming you—I don’t really mind the downvotes, if I made a bad joke I’m happy to take my lumps. Just surprised me, is all.

But I think you’re right. I was going for a sort of absurdist thing (lol, a train participating in a drag race. Lol, Tesla bro thinking he could outrun a high-speed train. Lol, some internet commenter who doesn’t get social cues and tries to inject his special interest/hyper focus into everything even when it doesn’t make sense) but I wasn’t absurd enough to not sound like I was legitimately saying those things.
